ISO standards (e.g. ISO 9241-11) define usability as “the extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction in a specified context of use”. In our context it is the ease with which learners can operate the user interface of a VP system. Research in usability of computer interfaces resulted in several rules about what to do or what to avoid in order to design software with good usability. Among the most popular are the usability heuristics defined by Nielsen Group and the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative.
